Locksmith in Woodstock, OntarioOne key, every door.

Most homes collect locks over the years: a front door from one decade, a side door from another, a garage entry that takes its own key. We rekey them all to a single key so the ring in your pocket finally gets lighter.

From the shop

Good locks, fitted by people who care.

The right answer for a shop with six staff is different from the right answer for a family of four, and we try not to carry one into the other. Homes generally want fewer keys and simpler routines; businesses want control and a record. We ask about the building, the people and the habits before naming a product, and we are comfortable saying that what you have already is enough.

Services for home, business and vehicle

Choosing a service is easier when you know what each one actually changes. Rekeying changes the key, replacement changes the hardware, repair keeps what you have working, and installation adds something new. The sections below sort our work along those lines.

Lockouts

Lockout Services

Opening a locked door without a key is a skill, and so is knowing when not to. We confirm the caller has a right to enter, choose the least destructive way in, and only drill a cylinder when picking and bypass have been tried and failed.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

Lock replacement and lock rekeying solve different problems. Replacement is for hardware that is worn, damaged or simply inadequate.

  1. Two detached brass lock cylinders and four house keys on a wooden counter. — Lock Rekeying, Woodstock
Lock RekeyingThe whole key ring went missing somewhere between the grocery store and the bus. You got back in with the spare, but a set of keys is out there, and you would sleep better knowing they open nothing.
  2. Person holding a silver-colored lock beside an open wooden door with exposed circular holes and a latch at its edge. — Deadbolt Installation, Woodstock
Deadbolt InstallationYou bought a keypad deadbolt online and pulled the old one off, only to find the hole in the door is a different size and the bolt latch sits at a backset the new kit does not list. The door is now open and the box is…
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Woodstock
Lock Replacement & UpgradeThe lever on the side door droops toward the floor and rattles in your hand. The latch no longer springs back on its own, so the door drifts open behind you unless you pull it shut and check it twice.
  4. Person holding a long door handle and rectangular lock case beside an open wooden door with exposed hardware recesses. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Woodstock
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceAfter a wet summer the entry door sits lower in its frame. The lock works perfectly when the door is open, but with it shut you have to lift the handle and shoulder the door to get the deadbolt to throw.
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Woodstock
Smart Lock InstallationYour mother still lives on her own, and the personal support worker, the pharmacy delivery and two siblings all need to get in on different days. Cutting keys for everyone feels wrong; a code for each person, with a…
  6. Pale blue garden gate with a black lever latch between light stone pillars. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Woodstock
Gate & Building Entry LocksThe driveway gate drags a groove into the gravel every time it swings, and the latch stopped catching weeks ago. Now it sits propped shut with a brick, waiting for anyone to walk through and forget to prop it back.
  7. Detached threaded cam lock and mounting washer on a workbench in front of closed mail compartments. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Woodstock
Mailbox Lock ReplacementSomeone tried to pry the little door on the mailbox open with a screwdriver, and though the mail sitting inside is untouched, the lock now sits crooked in its hole and the key barely catches when it is turned.

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Offices, retail, industrial units and shared buildings all come through this section. The work includes rekeying and master keys, replacing high-traffic hardware, repairing exit devices, and installing keypads or card readers where keys have become a liability.

How a visit goes

If you rent, losing a key is handled in three steps rather than one. Tell your landlord first, since a lock change on a rented unit goes smoother when both sides know about it and both end up with a working key.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Planning the levels

Together we list the doors, then decide who should open everything, who should open a floor and who should open one room. That structure becomes the keying chart.

  2. 2 of 3

    Pinning to the chart

Every cylinder is pinned so the right keys work and nothing else does. We check each combination against the chart as we go, not at the end.

  3. 3 of 3

    Delivering keys and the record

You receive the keys labelled by level, the chart and a plain explanation of how to add a door or retire a key later without redoing the whole system.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 50%Older homes

About 50% of homes in Woodstock were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Older housing means older frames. Wood that has settled for years leaves strikes slightly out of line, so a bolt drags or needs a lift of the handle. A locksmith expects this and brings the shims, longer screws and strike plates to correct it.

  • 57%

Single-detached houses make up about 57% of homes in Woodstock (2021 Census).

Mixed housing brings mixed hardware ages as well as types. A locksmith may rebuild a mortise lock on a semi-detached house and then set up a keypad on a townhouse door across the road, and treats each with the care its owner expects.

Frequently asked questions

(226) 705-0349

How many new keys should I ask for?

Count the people who genuinely need one and add one for a known spare location: each adult, a teenager, a caregiver or regular sitter, the neighbour who checks the house, the landlord if you rent. Keys are cut on site, so the number is easy to settle during the visit. Fewer keys with names attached is the point; another can always be cut later from the code.

Should I rekey after a renovation or when a cleaner stops coming?

It is good practice whenever a key has been out of your hands for a while and you are not certain it came back. Contractors, cleaners, sitters and short-term guests all have honest reasons to hold a key, and most return it, but a rekey at the end of the arrangement is what turns 'probably' into certainty. Some households make it a habit at the close of every project.

My key fell in the snow in my own yard. Do I still need to rekey?

It is your call, and it is a reasonable one either way. A key lost on your own property is unlikely to be picked up by a stranger, but it will surface in the spring thaw, and until then you are trusting a guess about where it lies. Many households rekey anyway for the certainty, and because the visit also lets them put every door on one key while the locksmith is there.

How do I order extra keys later?

An authorised person contacts the locksmith who holds your system, quotes the system reference, and the key is cut from code and numbered into the register. Some systems use a physical authorisation card, others an online validation, and business systems often require a signature that matches one on file. The key is collected or delivered, and the record shows the new total. It is deliberately not something a stranger with your key can do.
